Connection Beyond Consumption

Divergent Spirits exists for those who know the rules well enough to wonder what sits on the other side of them. Tradition is the starting point here, never the ceiling.

FOUNDER

Divergent Spirits started with a question Trey Wade couldn't stop asking: "WHY?"
That question turned a curious consumer into an enthusiast, an enthusiast into a consultant, and a consultant into the person building the brand and the experience around it himself. The credentials came after the curiosity, not before it.
Nearly a decade in, Wade works where culture, education, and design overlap. His particular skill is translation: taking the things that are hard to name — an aroma that arrives late, a texture that changes halfway through, the balance that makes a pour worth a second one — and building an experience around them that someone else can actually feel.
His palate was built abroad as much as at home. Traveling South Africa from Soweto to the southern Cape, he found something closer to grounding than tourism — a journey back toward his roots that proved heritage and hospitality were never separate practices. In Australia, he competed on MasterChef (Season 15), where a professional kitchen under pressure taught him to taste faster, decide sooner, and trust what he was picking up.
That range shows up in what ends up in the bottle: pot-stilled rum from Foursquare in Barbados, Macedonian juniper, Moroccan orris, wild osmanthus. He calls the full catalog the Divergent diaspora — whiskey, rum, gin, agave — because a house shouldn't be smaller than the world it draws from.
At Blue Run Spirits, as Chief Experience Curator, he created the CHOSEN Private Barrel Program and turned private selection from a transaction into something closer to an education. After Blue Run was acquired, he led national experiential and consumer strategy as Head of Consumer Experience for Coors Spirits Co.
But the work that says the most about him happens around a table. Through Kinfolk Kickbacks, he builds gatherings that put good food, vinyl, and people who might not otherwise meet in the same room — often with Wade himself behind the stove, showcasing minority chefs and bakers alongside him. That's the same instinct behind Divergent's tagline: Connection Beyond Consumption.
Divergent Spirits is what happens when he stops working inside someone else's rules.
